sendmail help! please!
Nothing fancy here, I just need sendmail to be able to send messages out to the internet from my redhat 9 workstation. I'm not trying to run a mailserver or anything.
It's fresh off the install, and I haven't edited any sendmail config files (because I don't know how or which ones to edit). Here's what I get back when I try and send an email: ----- Transcript of session follows ----- ... while talking to flmx04.mgw.rr.com.: >>> MAIL From:<root@localhost.localdomain> SIZE=328 <<< 553 5.1.8 <root@localhost.localdomain>... The relay you are using needs to see a valid domain... You need to change your local system name and it's associated domain from the default 'localhost.localdomain' to something resolvable.

Yah that was pretty much it. Although everything I've read about /etc/hosts has said DO NOT CHANGE THE FIRST LINE, which includes that loopback 127.0.0.1 and the localhost.localdomain name. So I just added a second line with my real IP addy and a resolvable name (server.mydomain.com) and rebooted.
Thanks for the help. Miller Time. |
