sendmail getting e-mail through others spam filters

I have finally got my e-mail server working with sendmail, but I am having one concerning problem. When I send out e-mails from my server it always gets caught up in spam filters. For instance, when I send it to my yahoo e-mail the e-mail never makes it to the inbox, it goes into the junk folder. This concerns me because I will never know if my e-mails are being received. My questions is:

Is there something I can do with configuration that would resolve this? Is there like a digital e-mail signature that may say "Hey, I am ok, not spam!" that will get me through the spam filters?

This is my first venture into e-mail servers so I could be missing something simple, but I would like to be able to use e-mail from my domains with confidence. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank You in Advance.

Mike

The problem isn't your server it's your IP

I have the same problem because I have a residential IP most of my mail is bounced by the receiving servers

I think this stems from the fact that most servers do a reverse DNS lookup which in my case resolves to my ISP

As I don't have control over the reverse zone of my IP, this is controlled by my ISP, one work around is to use your ISP's mail server as a smart host

This works for me but I have to use SMTP authority in sendmail to get my mail through the server

Mail now originates from my domain but is delivered by my ISP's mail server

Not sure if my service provider approves of this but as yet have not had any problems
