Sendmail configuration problem (newbie)

I'm trying to setup sendmail on a fedora 2 (Tettnang) ...
internal email works for sending and receiveing
but to the Internet it only work outbound.

every time I send a message from hotmail or yahoomail I get this message:

Sent <<< RCPT TO:<lc@XXXX.com>
Received >>> 550 5.7.1 <lc@XXXX.com>... relaying denied

Unable to deliver message to <lc@XXXX.com>.

can someone point me in what to check ????

Thank's for the help

You need to check there's no firewall blocking SMTP outbound access (port 25) either on your FC2 box or on your router/NAT box. You also need to check your ISP hasn't blocked this as sometimes they get fidgety about people running their own servers.

thank you for the response ...
I have port 25 open in the firewall and I have a static IP with covad just for this ...

how can I check smtp status ????

I'm able to telnet to port 25 send email that way ...

I'm going crazy with this...
should I move to a different mail server ???
every body say that postfix it is much easier to config ...
but i will like to get send mail working it is a good learning experience

thank you again for the help

I have no knowledge of setting up either I'm afraid dude but purely from a holistic view yeah, if sendmail is giving you grief and you wont lose anything by trying postfix, go with that. Then if postfix gives you the same reponse you know it isnt a prob with the mail server software. Dont let it stress you, take some time out.
