I want to set-up an email server using sendmail that would be connected to the internet. This server has to be able to send as well as receive mail to internet based e-mail servers. I have already registered the domain name and got an IP address assigned to this server.
The problem I am facing is that I am unable to rout mails from my domain to other domains.
Can someone please help me out with this configuration.
Are you perhaps running redhat or fedora. Out of the box, sendmail is creatly hindered. You have to modify the sendmail.mc file in /etc/mail, and rebuild your sendmail.cf file. You of course need the sendmail-cf rpm as well as sendmail. If I knew you had redhat, I'ld give more instructions, but in any case, they are posted all over the internet (and this forum).
Do you get any error messages? Is there any information in your log files? Does the mail bounce immediately, does it enter the outbound queue, or does it just disappear? Have you tried sending mail with "mail -v <recipient>"? What files have you modified? Can you receive mail for your domain?
In other words, a little more information of pertinent details might be helpful.
