sendmail cannot access saslauthd server

ok, im trying to setup a basic sendmail server with sasl smtp authentication. saslauthd is running and it can authenticate users using testsaslauthd. sendmail can receive e-mails, but cannot send. I get promted for a password but it always fails.

Please help!

I should note that localhost emails (for our webmail) send fine.
