Sending mail from localhost with sendmail SMTP authentication

Hello,
I have recently turned on sendmail's option to require SMTP authentication in an attempt to make my server a little more secure. I have everything working well for the webmail and pc-based mail clients where I can check the option for SMTP authentication. However I am missing the logwatch reports and other mail messages that are sent from the server itself.
The research that I have done tells me that I need to setup a smart host in my access file. I have tried setting up a smart host but am wondering if it is conflicting with the smart host that I have setup for our isp (comcast) for outgoing mail from my server.

[root@ares etc]# sendmail -d0.1 -bv
Version 8.14.5
Compiled with: DNSMAP HESIOD HES_GETMAILHOST LDAPMAP LOG MAP_REGEX
MATCHGECOS MILTER MIME7TO8 MIME8TO7 NAMED_BIND NETINET NETINET6
NETUNIX NEWDB NIS PIPELINING SASLv2 SCANF SOCKETMAP STARTTLS
TCPWRAPPERS USERDB USE_LDAP_INIT

I'm open for any ideas or suggestions.
Thanks in advance!
