Segmentation fault when running john

Hi
I'm attempting to run john on both my FC4x64 machines and whenever I run
$john mypasswordfile
I get "Segmentation fault" and it quits...
if I run
$john -wordfile=/[location of wordfile] mypasswordfile
it runs the dictionary attack correctly..... also, if I run
$john -i mypasswordfile
it runs the increment attack correctly

I did a google and havent found anything related to this problem. Does anyone know what the problem is?
(it should be noted that the x32 FC distro I used to run worked fine)

Thanks in advance!

- Jay

when running john in brute force mode.......you need to give it some parameters...........like numbers 0-9 or letters small a-z or capital A-Z and also how many characters the pass may be..........1-5 or 6-10.........plus other characters on the keyboard can be used also..........there should be a readme or manual that tells how to input the required info........

Thanks for the reply but thats not my problem.....
Whenever I try to run the default john scan (which first does a dictionary, then dictionary variations and finally incremental mode (brute force) I get a segmentation fault. If I run *just* the dictionary or incremental it works fine.

note: incremental mode does not need any parameters... if none are given, it tries everything.

thanks

Anyone..... Anyone.... Bueller ..... Bueller....?

I tried to compile my own bin from the source (thinking that the rpm I installed may have been corrupt but no dice...)

Should I move this thread to another forum?

Thanks!
