Segmentation fault comes every time when i issue any command in linux

Hi

When I issue any command in linux a segmentation fault error comes esp. if i issue rpm -qa | grep <package name>
then it shows me this error meesage. What does it means how do i resolve this problem. Please help, I am using RHEL 4.8 OS.

Depends

If you installed/upgraded some isolated system-package it may be your
own doing ...

If nothing has changed with the software it might be a problem with your
RAM or the MMU.

hi, Tinkster,

I just encountered the same problem, I ran yum -update to update my Centos 5, after it is successfully finished the update, any commands I issued over SSH show me the segfault error, then I closed SSH, and not able to re-login again, finally I restarted the server, again, following error occured continuousely forever:

error 14
init[1] segfault at 0000000000000000000000 rip 0000000000000000000000000 rsp 00007ffffe2b2698

What can I do, re-install?

I hope you are still around to guide me on this.
