seg fault in terminal

For some reason I was getting a Seg Fault whenever I opened a terminal session in MDK 9. I am not sure what caused it, but rebooting solved the problem. But, I'm just curious if there is a way
to find out what exactly was causing the problem, in case it happens again. The Seg Fault happened right before the prompt was printed in any terminal

First place to check is the /var/ area for logs.

/var/log/messages

is where mine is, for example.
