Searching 4 Permanent solution for the mp3 loudness

Hi guys!

In order to normalize the loudness of several albuns of a mp3 collection,
I usually use NORMALIZE in the MIX mode (normalize -m bla bla bla...) togheter with FIND.
However this solution has been somewhat unsuitable because every time that I add a new album to the
collection I have to apply the command to the whole collection again since the MIX mode searches for the
avarage loudness of the files to normalize them.

One of the ideas would be pre determine the minimum and the maximum loudness of each
song in dB, and then apply these thresholds to the whole collection causing all the songs to follow the same loudness default.

Thus, whenever I insert a new album I wouldnīt need to normalize the whole collection
again, only this one.

How can I do this?
Is it a good idea?
Is there any other suggestion, considering that I donīt want to normalize the whole collection
every time I add a new album?

Best regards,

Did you ever find a solution?

Nope....

Actually, I'd even forgotten this question.

Now I have 20 Gb of mp3. Thus, it is impossible to even try normalize.

As I had said before, the better solution seens to adjust the loudness of the album when you encode it.

I guess that if you use always the same ripper/enconder, like grip for i.e., the albuns will get the same gain in loudness when being encoded, but I'm not sure.

If some day you find something new, please let me know.

Thanks!

I don't think so. I have one album in particular which has a lower volume level than other albums I own and when ripped via grip no normalization seems to happen. Of course I use the default cdparanoia ripper so who knows.

I asked if you had found a solution because a lot of the podcasts I download have that issue. They'll talk a bit and when they go to play a song it is much louder than the talking. I constantly have to turn the volume up/down to compensate.

I've tried using normalize with mad support and I don't notice a difference. Oh well, back to the drawing board. If I find a solution I'll try to remember to lookup this thread and update it.

Boosting the Volume

How about just boosting the volume of a single mp3? Any hints as to how to do that?
