I'm looking to alternatives of the programs I use in windows, I have found some but am still on the look for
A program like
*Qtracker:
A very nice game browser like gamespy(better). It has a cool buddy tracker and some other nice features.
It has an option to search music servers as well, there are about 700 internet radios with a lot of different content
*The Godfather
Organize lot's of mp3's, change tags , filenames using online Database of albums
* MP3Gain:
MP3Gain analyzes and adjusts mp3 files so that they have the same volume. It does not just do peak normalization, as many normalizers do. Instead, it does some statistical analysis to determine how loud the file actually sounds to the human ear. Also, the changes MP3Gain makes are completely lossless. There is no quality lost in the change because the program adjusts the mp3 file directly, without decoding and re-encoding.
* Irfanview:
lightweight picture viewer, with batch conversion to other formats.
* Miranda IM:
MSN, IRC, ICQ , ...
I only use MSN and IRC
Miranda IM is designed to be resource efficient and easy to use. It uses very little memory and has plenty of plugins available.
GAIM uses to much screenspace and ram
* Mailwasher:
Stop spam, viruses, and other unwanted e-mail before they get to your computer, using this powerful software.
Mail Washer also lets you bounce e-mail back to the spammers so it looks as though your address is not valid!
It checks hotmail -yea I've had that account for years...-
And it loads my fav email prog by press of a button.
* Foxmail:
very small emailclient but with
# hows HTML messages by default in plain text (safer), while HTML view is only a click away
# very lean on the system's resources
# Can export messages to separate EML files for backup (no tool needed!)
# very small (the install is somewhat over 1 MB!)
# Remote mail management, downloads/deletes emails directly from the mail server
# Local mailbox with encryption feature and address book
# Hotmail proxy to receive email from Hotmail as POP3 server
# Support multiple accounts, each account with independent setting
# Mail-Express Service (email is delivered to the destination’s mailbox directly without any SMTP server relaying)
# Advanced Spam Filter
* An easy to use FTP client like FlashFXP or SmartFTP
* A text editor like Textpad , small on resources , good features ... to write html and java+others
* Is there a program which shows all installed packages for slackware (+maybe option to uninstall)
* CD Burning program like BurnAtOnce
burnatonce is designed to write your CDs quickly and with minimum fuss. The interface is simple, fast to use, yet powerful and is not cluttered with any wizards or cuddly animated characters. Unfortunately this means that less experienced users may initially need to consult the help file before getting started.
cue/bin, toc/dat or ISO format as well as compiling data and audio CDs from various files.
Well these named windows programs are on my site's freeware list , gpure.tk
I'm looking for alternatives to these programs at this moment, maybe som1 of you more experienced LInux users know good programs like these already. Or you know of any list of greatest linux software , etc.
qtracker - qstat
irfanview - xv
miranda - gaim, amsn, BitchX
vim is an excellent editor
checkinstall can uninstall software
I use cdrecord from the command line to burn my cds
Oh and check freshmeat.net and sf.net for loads of software
vim/emacs + learn it, nedit, cdbakeoven, checkinstall/stow, cube, gftp, xmms normalisation plugin / there's a commandline set of tools for this, i think one's called normalization
