Screenshot of only one window under X

I am wondering if its possible to (using C or C++) get the contents of a window. And if its possible is it still possible if that window is then partially covered?

I am trying to write a bot for a game using image recognition via neural networks, so i just need to get the image and break it up...

Well any help is appreciated, thanks in advance

Im still trying to figure out how im going to do this... Would it be possible to run the program inside of vnc, then somehow use the vnc interface to work with the program (all i need to do is get images and click). If so i have no idea how to do this... can someone please point me in the right direction
