ScreenSaver problems

Hi folks!

I need a hand with this: I am trying to install this cool goodie:

xscreensaver-4.18.tar.gz from www.jwz.org/xscreensaver

I am using Mandrake 10.1 CE.

As a root, I follow the README to perform the installation on my PC, but the ./configure file gives the following errors:

-> checking for X ....... no
-> Configure: error: couldn't find x11 headers/lib

so the installation failed.

I checked my system and I have installed X server and in fact, KDE and GNOME are both running fine.

Anybody could give me any hint to solve this?

Regards

Froy

You may need to install your X11 headers. They should be on your installation disks. They might be under something call X11 developmentals. While you are there , it would make sence to install of your developmental packages.

Thanks for your comment...

I fear someone would suggest me look in my Mandrake installation CD... but I couldn't find it any file regarding X11 header or something...

Are there any other way to install this screensaver under Mandrake without much hassle??

No RPMs for that file under Mandrake?

Thanks

in the menu you should have something like "add/remove programs"(at least redhat did) then you should be able to install your developmental packages that way. It should prompt you to insert one of your three cds

if your profile is correct and you're using them older versions of the distro, the package you're probably looking for will be something along the lines of 'XFree86-devel*'. where the '*' will be something like version number and 'mdk' (ie... 4.2.XXXX.XXX-mdk.rpm or something like that).

edit: oops! in your first post you said mandrake 10.1... i don't know if it's using xorg or xfree so the package name might be different.... sorry.

I'm having the exact same problem. I have installed everything I could find that I believed would be related from the CD's, and still no luck.
