Screensaver not working

I just did a clean install of Ubuntu 10.10 on my Dell Dimension 3000 machine. For some reason, the screensaver doesn't kick in at all. The screen goes to sleep properly when set but none of the screensaver modules make any difference in getting the screensaver to work properly. What should I do?

Screensavers are firmly set up in X, unless acpi is getting involved. Depends on your WM. Usually you can test the screensaver. Does this work?

Find the settings in your window manager. Just to mention, X windows has 2 layers

1. the X server (xorg, or xfree86)
2. The window manager, which is the interface (xfce, gnome, kde, fvwm, blackbox, enlightenment, etc. etc. etc.)

In the window manager there will be settings. The screensaver is set there.
