screens not fitting

i'm running red hat 8 kde 2. some of my windows mainly the configuration windows don't fit on my screen. i change my resolution but when i reboot and startx again it looks exactly the same....red hat says that it's running on like 1024 x 768 but it looks the same as if it was running on 640 x 480. help i can't see my windows!

Have tried to change the resolution directly from /etc/X11/XF86Config-4 file, edit the file look for screen section, subsection display and put the resolution manualy there it should work ....

also try the Ctrl-Alt-KeyPad+/KeyPad- key combinations. You may be running at a magnified resolution.

If all else fails, try running redhat-config-xfree86. You can also edit the file motaro mentioned manually using an editor such as GNU Nano or Emacs.

magnified applications

I am running redhat 9.0 and I am having the same problems but only with applications. If I open OpenOffice1.0 or 1.1, or Konqueror Web Browser, everything is so magnified, it renders the applications useless. I need a fix. I think the magnifications settings must be manually set but I do not know where to look since I am a newbee with linux.
