Screen resolution incorrect when starting up with disconnected monitor

Hi,

I'm running Ubuntu (Hardy) as a media centre, connected to a 42" screen that eats power even when off, so I leave it switched off at the wall when not using it.

However, if the media centre has turned on to record a programme and the TV is off at the wall, it looks like Xorg can't detect the monitor so uses a very low resolution, despite 1920x1080 being specified in xorg.conf.

Is there any way to prevent the autodetection of a monitor and just force xorg to use the specified resolution, as I don't really want to have to restart X if I turn the TV on after the PC has booted up.

I've googled and searched these forums, but no joy - sorry if this has been asked before.

Thanks,
Ed

In xorg.conf add to graphics card device:

Option "NoDDC" "1"

and then on Screen, specify default resolution and solely that resolution as available.

Hi,

Thanks for the reply - unfortunately that didn't work, behaves as before. I've also tried things like UseEIDC false, with no joy.

It's a Nvidia card, if it makes a difference (integrated in MSI Media Live case/motherboard).

Thanks,
Ed
