"screen" for x windows? (headless windows)

I would like to run some (x windows) software on a server. Remotely. Then I would like to end my remote connection (ssh) to that server, but still leave the software running. Also, I don't need the actual window display; it could as well be discarded right from the beginning.

For console programms, this can be done with "screen", it allows you to keep your programms running, log out, and later log back in, and reconnect to your "screen" session.

Is it possible to do this in X as well?

Thanks!
