This guide was created as an overview of the Linux Operating System, geared toward new users as an exploration tour and getting started guide, with exercises at the end of each chapter.
For more advanced trainees it can be a desktop reference, and a collection of the base knowledge needed to proceed with system and network administration. This book contains many real life examples derived from the author's experience as a Linux system and network administrator, trainer and consultant. They hope these examples will help you to get a better understanding of the Linux system and that you feel encouraged to try out things on your own.

I know there were some people asking questions about scim and I did check the
posted messages. but mine is a little different.
at first I have got scim work well, I can input Chinese in firefox and other applications.
only acroread has problem, so I took the suggestion googled from internet. There
are basically two methods to deal with conflict between acroread and scim (change
startup script or reset enviroment by command). I tried all of them. HOWEVER, I really forgot what I have done and I tried all the best to recover it. The net result is that I can not use scim now, run
Smart Common Input Method 1.4.2
Launching a SCIM process with x11...
Loading socket Config module ...
Creating backend ...
Loading x11 FrontEnd module ...
Failed to launch SCIM.
I know this is familar to most of the people here. but I did make it work an hour ago. I do not know which configuration I have changed so that scim does not work anymore. Even if I login
a Chinese locale, I can not use scim either. Most possibibly I have changed some setting
about gtk, but I have tried the best to recover it, for example, I remember I changed
/etc/gtk-2.0, and /etc/rc.d. I reinstalled scim, the problem still exists. The scim icon does
display on the right top of my gnome desktop, but when I press CTR+SPACE, no response.
