Scandisk Equivalent-Flag bad Sectors?

i have a 2 gig western digital drive that has bad sectors. windows was installed on the comp when it was given to me and i'm trying to put slackware on it. however with windows scandisk would scan and mark the bad sectors.

when i try to install i get errors like this:

Code:
hda: read_intr: status=0x59 { DriveReady SeekComplete DataRequest Error }
hda: read_intr: error=0x40 { Uncorrectable Error }, LBAsect=8980328, sector=8980328
end_request: I/O Error, dev 03:00 (hda), sector 8980328    Unable to read /dev/hda

hda: read_intr: status=0x59 { DriveReady SeekComplete DataRequest Error }
hda: read_intr: error=0x40 { Uncorrectable Error }, LBAsect=8980336, sector=8980336
end_request: I/O Error, dev 03:00 (hda), sector 8980336

hda: read_intr: status=0x59 { DriveReady SeekComplete DataRequest Error }
hda: read_intr: error=0x40 { Uncorrectable Error }, LBAsect=8980344, sector=8980344
end_request: I/O Error, dev 03:00 (hda), sector 8980344
this also happens when i do #e2fsck -c /dev/hda

and when i try to format my partition using the install program for slack. so bottom line: How can i prepare this drive for a slack install? Thanks!

" How can i prepare this drive for a slack install?"

If mkfs -c doesn't work then I suggest that you do a low level format. You can download a DOS based low level format program from Western Digital.
