Satellite L300 Sound Card problems

[Log in to get rid of this advertisement]
I just installed Debian on this laptop. All is well except that the sound card seems flaky. I can play MP3 and movies but the microphone doesn work. When I open alsa mixer GUI to adjust settings the mic is absent and only three are there ... "Master PCM and Digital"

Has anybody else had this problem? Anybody have solutions? I am not proficient with Linux or sound cards!

Thanks

Daka

What do you mean by flaky? I had problems on a Toshiba laptop where the sound would sometimes get itself into a half second loop, repeating the same bit of sound over and over. Do you get something like that?

I have a Satellite L300 and encountered a strange problem with the microphone: for example, when I use skype, laptop is making cracking sounds (sound is fine when I am watching a movie or listening an MP3 with mplayer). Apparently, the mike is interfering with some other component.

On a different note, does suspend/resume work for you?
