Sata drive not working in LVM

I am having trouble copying data to my drive. It is running Redhat Enterprise 4.

I have 4x500gb sata drives running as one large LVM grouped partion.

It is fine installing the OS onto the LVM partition but when I start to copy large volumes of files over (using Rsync) I get the following error:

scsi error : <1 0 0 0> return code 0x8000002
Current sdc: sense key Aborted command
Additional sense: Scsi Party error
end_request: I/O error, dev sdc, sector599717239
Buffer I/O error on device dm-0, logical block 197058167
lost page write due to I/O error on dm-0
ATA: abnormal status 0xD0

Any ideas? Ive done nothing to the OS its a clean install without iptables or SELinux running.

What distribution are you using? The error could possibly be occurring at the boundaries between the physical drives that you have in your LVM. I haven't heard good things about LVM and I don't use it myself. You probably want to use regular partitioning even though that means separate directories for each drive.

Im using CentOS release 4.3, unfortunatley I need to use LVM as this is going to be used as a backup server.
