samba read write share

ive been trying to setup a samba read write by anyone on the windows share. how would one make a generic nas drive for temporary files. i want to migrate files off a computer getting formatted pushed to linux samba share, then recover said files. i need the smb.conf file....

i make a smb dir in my user directory, then symlink it to /home/smb then have the server pointed at the symlink currently.

that is to say i can pull, but not push to the samba share, when i need to push and pull from it.

Silly question; does it work without the symbolic link? If so, try a hard link.

If I follow the question depending on what samba version you are running the default value for wide links is set to no. Samba will refuse to follow any symbolic links outside the current share tree. There could be a permission error too.

Why do you need to use symlinks?

i can use mount binds, the symlinks are besides the point. as of right now its just a standard directory @ /home/smb... the versions besides the point also, im rocking gentoo i can move up or down in version.

i just want to be able to take "test.txt" from my windows machine and put it onto my linux smb share.... later on thinking about it id prefer to take "test.txt" and move it to /home/smb/share share drop box rather than let users edit the files on my smb share as there are kids on this network.
