samba public share files deleted

Hi I have created a samba share in /tmp partition as follows. I just adhere to the existing system file permissions in /tmp (as it is already created by distro)

[public-share]
comment = Temporary file space
path = /tmp
valid users = @staff
read only = no
public = yes

but now users claim that the some files are getting deeleted... How this could be? how to avoid it? olny I know is that these filese are huge sized movies copied from windows? there is no pattern in deleting that I can find?

in linux is there size limitation in /tmp system folder?

thanks

What distribution/version are you running?
Many use tmpwatch to delete files in /tmp that are not accessed for a period of time. In addition some distributions (if configured) will automatically delete the contents of /tmp at boot up.

Either disable tmpwatch or move the samba share to someplace other then /tmp (The later probably being the better choice). Obviously if tmpwatch is disabled you will then need to periodically delete any temporary files manually.

tmpwatch might be running form cron. Check the cron.hourly or cron.daily etc to see if it is a scheduled task.
