Samba printer share causes runtime errors in WinXP
I have an HP ColorLaser 2500n that I have firewalled down to one computer; my Linux box. That computer shares the printer via appletalk and Samba so I can control (and monitor) who uses it. Everything worked like a charm. You'd click "connect" on the shared printer and all the drivers would install and everyone was happy.
One day, out of the blue, everyone who tried printing got a run time error in whatever program they were printing from. If you right click on the printer and select "properties" explorer.exe has a run time error. I combed the smb.conf and everything seems fine... In fact, the only solution to the problems is re-creating the share under a different name, but then the same problem eventually crops up.
The ONLY thing I can think of that has changed recently is the samba RPMs upgraded through Yum... Has anyone even heard of this happening? I'm not 100% sure it is a Samba problem, but if you share the printer from a Windows machine it seems to work fine. Also, there are other shared printers on this Samba install that work perfectly.
