Samba Files Have to be Copied?
well i've been running fedora core for a while and it's just awesome. I've got my samba server up and running and I can SSH into it from work. I got my personal blog running on it as well as a streaming audio server. Everything works pretty well except this one little thing.
I opened up my samba shares inside my network so I can backup files from the win boxes to the linux box and all that worked great. I then backed up all my mp3s from my windows boxes to the linux box for the purposed of the streaming audio server. Then when I told the streaming audio software where the mp3s were "/home/Music/" it didn't find a single file. This confused me. I tried all sorts of things. Reconfigured the streaming audio server several times. Eventually I found that when I copied an mp3 to another directory it worked fine adding that single mp3 to the streaming media list. I eventually figured out it wasn't the directory but the original mp3s that were the issue. There appears to be some sort of issue with the files that are made on the Samba shares and I have to essentially copy everything to another directory using linux and everything works great. But this is a huge pain in the ass. Any time I rip a new cd or upload some new content from my ipod i have to then go in - make a copy of the files and delete the originals. Is there some setting that's not right on my Samba share that prevents the correct file associations from being made? Is this making sense to anyone? Any help would be greatly appreciated. I can't be the only person who's ever experienced this but I searched the forums and found nothing similar to what i'm talking about here.
