Samba--deprecating "security=share"
An alert displayed by nmblookup has been informing me that the Samba security param "security=share" is being "deprecated".
I am currenty using Ubuntu Linux 12.04-LTS with its associated version of Samba. Two desktop machines and a laptop are currently on my Home LAN and they are all running sub-types of Ubuntu Linux 12.04-LTS. (A fourth machine is running Windows XP to support those Windows programs which I still sometimes need.)
Does the Samba Development Team plan to withdraw support for the "security=share" option in future Samba versions?
I have a Home LAN shielded by a hardware firewall and there do not seem to be any problems with continuing to use this param(security=share) on the Ubuntu Linux machines. After some effort and learning, the Samba installation on my Home LAN seems to be working quite well at this time. Of course, if support for this option is flatly withdrawn, I would have to make some choices...upgrade and use the "security=user" option or do not upgrade.
Does anyone "out there" have useful comments or suggestions?
