samba config

hey all,
i'm having some trouble configureing samba 3.0, from my windows box i can see the servers in network place's but when i try to access it asks for a passwd but wont authenticate. can anyone give me a quick, breif run down of the samba setup, eg. uncomment these " " in samba.conf, set up this with command " " and off you go.

the basic idea is to get the linux boxes to authenticate with the windows active directory using samba/kerberos - any comments on this would be appreciated as well.

many thanks

personally I turn off encrypted passwords but then you have to also disable it in windows, you can do this in winodws by going into the registry. In the "regedit" proggies in windoze you add "dword" value named "EnablePlainTextPassword" and make the Hex Value 1.

I believe you add it in "HKeyLocalMachine" --> "System" --> "Current Control Set" --> "VXD" or "VNETUP" (I don't remember from there)

Basically it's in the same folder in the reg where your "computer name" key is. If you can find that and I think it's in the VNETUP folder (in win95/98/me) you add that dword value there.

I can give you a 100% answer when I get home, as I'm at work and don't have access to my doco here.
