First you should open yast2 and install samba. Then use the run level editor to add in to the runlevels you want. Then the service will run if you reboot or something. Then edit /etc/samba/smb.conf and restart the service. How far have you got so far? You have ethernet and switchs connecting the computers and can you ping the others?

There's alot more to it I'm just trying to get a feel of were your at'

Zacrah-
if you are truly a newbie, find a used copy of "linux Netwrok Toolbox"-- Paul Sery- it is somewhat dated, so DO NOT follow his instructions line by line- But it is a very good primer and will get you well versed in the vocabulary in a fairly accessible format- from there you will get a better handle on ready the man and HOWTO files-

--Samba configuration is actually pretty easy, they provide good examples in the smb.conf man pages, but w/o a better understanding of rights issues and other background issues it is much harder to troubleshoot-

--security is really, really important- any server visible to the web is a target- so keep your users' data off of your firewall box- you will not be forgiven if they lose data----

good luck- michael
