SAMBA - browse Windows filesystem?

Hi,
I've been using Linux for a while as a server platform, but only just got into it as a desktop system (RH8 on a Thinkpad T30). I have a question about SAMBA - everything I've read seems to focus on being able to browse the Linux filesystem from a Windows machine, but what about the reverse? I have a windows machine with all my mp3's etc on it - can I browse to it from my RH8 laptop in an explorer-like interface?
Thanks

Yes.

The "explorer-like" interface you refer to would depend on the window manager you are using.

DirtDart, thanks. I'm using Gnome. Now that I know it's possible, I'll read up some more. Cheers

Hi!

You could see your samba shares in nautilus (the gnome file explorer). Just type smb: in the location field.

A thing that you can't do though, is play mp3s directly through samba on your linux machine. This is because samba is not a real file system, and xmms (or whatever player you have) is not aware of samba. There is work done to turn samba into a real file system (CIFS). Look at this site:

Regards
Martin
