running QEMU-KVM causes microphone to break
The problem:
I have a mic built into my logitech webcam. It normally works. Then I start QEMU-KVM (with -soundhw ac97) running windows vista, let it boot up, then shut it down. Then the mic doesn't work anymore, but the camera picture capturing still does. (I can verify this by using skype from linux.)
What I have checked:
- the volume on the mic is up and unmuted. (Using gnome System Settings panel.)
- the little light on the camera does come on when I go to the mic page of the Settings, so it is _trying_ to capture sound.
- tried: /etc/init.d/alsa-utils restart
- tried: modprobe uvcvideo
Nothing helps. Restarting linux fixes it. Anyone have any suggestions how to make it not happen or at least what module/daemon to restart in order to avoid having to restart whole linux?
Thanks.
UPDATE:
- restarting the snd-usb-audio kernel module fixes it. Unfortunately, this requires first manually unplugging the webcam because otherwise the kernel module refuses to unload. Still not sure what the problem is because there are no errors in dmesg.
