To my (limited) knowledge, you cannot run php with Tomcat.
But you could run Apache with PHP, and Tomcat, at the same time on the same server. Remember that Tomcat/Java talks on port 8080 while Apache is on port 80 so their pages will not collide.
And nothing stops you from internally linking, or even redirecting page requests from one to the other.

Unless you are developing two completely separate sites, using multiple ports and linking between the two doesn't exactly sound good. Like you said, you can use both the PHP and Tomcat bridges for Apache but I would recommend finding a different way to send requests to the two different handlers. If I recall correctly, you should be able to map certain URL's to certain handlers. For example, anything ending in .php goes to PHP. That way there won't be a conflict over ports. I have even heard of people chaining them together, using Java webapps to generate pages with PHP tags that PHP then takes care of. Not sure about the details of that one though. I think I saw it on LQ though if anyone wants to search for it.
