Running midnight commander from console

I just installed midnight commander on Fedora Core 4. All installed great as an RPM.

When I run mc along or with any command line parameters, it tries to start an xwindows session (I am SSH'd in ). How can I force mc to run in console mode only?

I have tried mc -a
