running ethereal as a normal user

I have just installed ethereal and can run it fine as root. But when logged in as a normal usr, I get the error.

The capture session could not be initiated (socket: Operation not permitted).
Please check to make sure you have sufient permissions, and that you have the proper interface or pip specified.

I am running Slackware 8.1. I added my username to the root group, but I still get this error. What do I need to do to rexovles this? Thanks
