You'll have to install the vmware-tools on guest OS for the display to run in full screen.

Smile setting up redhat linux in full screen

From VMware Workstation: go to VM> Install VMware Tools
From the VM: mount the virtual cd drive
mount /dev/cdrom /mnt/Extract VMware Tools to /tmp/
tar -C /tmp -zxvf /mnt/VMwareTools-5.5.4-44386.tar.gzUnmount the virtual cd drive
umount /mntNow run the installer
cd /tmp/vmware-tools-distrib
./vmware-install.plWhen asked Do you want to run vmware-config-tools.pl?, answer "Yes".
When asked if you want vmware-config-tools.pl to try and fix your xorg.conf, say "No", and follow Fixes below.

adjust the resolution to 1280x800

You may not need tools but most times it helps.

Do you see the player screen at full size and a small OS screen inside or is your complaint that the entire player screen is not full screen?

I thought full screen can be an option in the player settings or can be a hot key sequence. Isn't it alt tab or alt enter or right alt something. See docs at vmplayer for sure.

For the OS being larger it needs to be adjusted to match your monitor but may be that you need to correct for the virtual video adapter or other setting.
