rtorrent keeps checking hashes, even after I told it not to

The title says it all, I've enabled option
check_hash=no
in my ~/.rtorrent.rc file, but it keeps checking hashes for every torrent.

Does anyone know how to disable it?
Thanks

Some torrent software has an option of preserving torrent hash data between program restarts and it is only then that an option to not check hashes has any effect. If you don't have the program set to preserve hash data between restarts of the software then it disregards the check hash suppression option and checks the hashes.

I am not sure how rtorrent works but it might be similar.
