RRD dependency failures

I'm trying to install RRD on a Redhat EL 4 system. It hits some dependency problems with freetype and libart, it also hit one with libpng, but that went away after I installed it, the other two did not. I tried entering different environmental variables for where RRD should find the libraries, but it still doesn't seem to find them. I'm not really sure what to do from here, and all that I saw and tried in the documentation didn't help. Any ideas?

Cheers,
Michael

UPDATE: alright I think I figured it out. pointing the PKG_CONFIG_PATH variable to /tmp/rrdbuild/lb/lib/pkgconfig fixed the freetype problem, and half fixed the libart problem. I then went and installed a libart-devel rpm and that fixed everything.
