rpm question

Forgive me, I should know this by now but what the heck is the difference between an rpm and an rpm.bin? I downloaded something that was supposed to be a self extracting rpm but it had a .bin after the rpm and is not self extracting. How do i install?

bin's are self extracting binary file. To install or run, just make sure it has executable permissions then run it at the command line:

./filename.rpm.bin
