rpm -ql package_name' s equivalent with yum

I was wondering if there's equivalent of rpm -ql package_name with yum. This is very useful that shows you what files were installed by a particular packages and their location.

I would like to be informed that how do I do that with a software that's installed from source code. I mean how do I know which files were installed by a software that was compiled from source code.

AFAIK Yum doesn't, rpm does.

Using not 'installwatch' but the other equivalent tool (installwatch doesn't see everything apparently). Or using a file integrity checker like Aide, Samhain, Osiris or even tripwire but that's a wee bit overkill for this.

Software that was installed from source code is not entered into the rpm data base. The rpm data base is the only central location which keeps track of where software is installed. So the solution to your problem is to use checkinstall when you install software from source. You can use checkinstall to create a rpm package from the source code and then install the rpm.

Since yum is just a front end for rpm (more or less) and requires rpm, I would imagine it would be considered redundant to add this feature to yum.

You can also use checkinstall for the source code stuff (instead of make install you checkinstall). At his point there is so little that I install from source, it is not longer a problem.

I installed heartbeat using yum on centos 5 using the default repository. But if I do rpm -ql heartbeat, it says it's not installed while rpm -qa | grep heartbeat shows that it's installed. So I was wondering maybe, I have to use yum to see the files associated with heartbeat.
why rpm is behaving like that?
