rpm package installation

Hi,

I got a beginners question:
where could I save packages to when I download them from the web.
Is a good idea to keep thosew after installation?

Thanks for any help!

Welcome to LQ.

There is no need to keep them unless you want to reinstall them. If you really want to keep them then just put them on a partition where you have plenty of free space.

Personally, I think that there isn't all that much point in keeping them, as packages may be updated since you last downloaded them, and so you don't get the benefits of the new version. Having said that, if you're on a slow connection, there may be said that there is some merit in saving them [to another partition or whatever], especially those packages which are particularly large.

Thanks a lot Guys.
If I can spare a bit of space, I'll keep the "biggies" where it took me about 40' to download ...
Have a good day.
