rpm of installing kernel "hangs"

Hi,

I am using RH 9 and I am trying to ugrade the kernel.

I did rpm -Fhv kernel-2.4.20-31.9.um.2.i386.rpm and I get following output :
Preparing .... ###### [100%]
1:kernel #######[100%]

However, I do not get the prompt back after about 30 minutes.

Does this mean rpm has failed ?
Am I allowed to push CTRL-C to stop the RPM ?

What can I do ?

Tnx in advance
