Rpm Lib version conflict
Hello
I tried installing Red Hat Linux 6.2's updated packages Pine,Zlib etc.Since the packages that were installed during Red Hat's installation had some vulnerabilty.Red hat Errata had given these updated packages.But when i tried to install the updated packages it said that these packages needed rpmlib<=4.0-1 is needed.Does it mean that RPM engine has to be updated.What shall i do Regards Saravanan |

Does it mean that RPM engine has to be updated? yes it does. go to rpmfind and get newer rpms for the rpm library itself.

U have payed a haeavy price for ur sicausticness.Now i am boiling under pressure.I uninstalled the existing version of RPM in my machine thinking that i could get the binaries for RPMS and restore everything but i was not able to do that.Plz we come to this site to learn if u expreinced person feel our questions are silly just ignore them rather than giving misleading replies.Know i am at my wits struggling to get things up,for the simple reasin there is no source available for RPMS 4.0.x..

i'm sorry i didn't mean to sound sarcastic. in your post you asked one actual question, to which i answered "yes". i don't really see that as misleading....

I am sorry, maybe i should not have used the word power, sarcastic.

So did the rpm2tgz work? If so then get rpm-4.x.x.rpm and a development one and convert them to tarballs, install from tarballs and then you can use rpm database to store packages info, etc.

I haven't tried yet,I am just engaged with some coding work(basically i am a PHP programmer,sice there are no sysadmin in my office i take care of my server also).I was normally considered as not being adventourous,with regards to the server handling.SO in the past 2 days i attempted few adventourous things and ran into problems,,once i install i will get back to u.I can never forget ur help
