Rotate a avi file - Video question

My mrs has made a small video with her camera. It is an AVI file and has copied on to my P/C without any problem (from the camera).

The avi file plays fine (using xine or mplayer) but was filmed with the camera to the side. Is there a Linux program that will let me rotate it by 90 degress (so it is the right way up).

Many thanks

mplayer -vf rotate=[0|1|2|3] file.avi

0 Rotate by 90 degrees clockwise and flip (default).
1 Rotate by 90 degrees clockwise.
2 Rotate by 90 degrees counterclockwise.
3 Rotate by 90 degrees counterclockwise and flip.

T.Hsu - Thanks for your posting.

Is there a program that can change the file to automatically play the correct way up?

T.Hso - Thanks for that. It worked a treat watching it the right way up in mplayer.

Has anyone any suggestions for a programme to be able to change the file permanently so that it plays the right way up?

Many thanks

prj - the answer if you have mplayer installed is:-

open a shell window

cd to the directory with your avi file or files

then type

mencoder nameofyourfile.avi -o target.avi -oac copy -ovc lavc -vf rotate=1

works a treat (posted on another forum by the way not something I'd worked out)

Smile

Thanks for that I'll give it a go very soon.
Also thankyou to T.Hsu, worked a treat once I sussed out the "with flip" to get rid of mirror image.

Here's the odd one - halfway through one recording I moved the phone through 90' so will have to split the file, but shouldn't be a major issue (i hope )
