root-tail -help

Im trying to get root-tail to work in RH9 KDE3.1 but it just pauses and does nothing.

this is the command i use;

root-tail -g 80x25+100+50 /var/log/messages

but it just pauses there and does nothing.

when I log off I can see root-tail in action for a split second and it disapears again.

How do i fix this? I have tried Gnome with the same results

Thanks

Kde used to offer a way to run an app in the backround root window, at least in version 3.
The only way to run root-tail in gnome is to shut off nautilus.
Most window managers/environments these days run a window on top of the root window for use as a desktop.
I used to have 3 or 4 log files tailed to the root window in enlightenment and gnome 1.
I dont think fluxbox draws a root window either.

That's right, I'm using root-tail on flux,
no sweat :)

Cheers,
