root-tail for gnome

im running slack 9.1 with the gnome environment. i tried for a whole day to get root-tail working, only to eventually find out that it didnt work with nautilus. is there an alternative that anyone can think of that offers the same feature - having it integrated into the background and not being able to click on it - that would work with my setup ?
thanks

I'm not sure if this will work, but you could try running nautilus with the "--no-desktop" flag.

You could use the gdesklet multitail. It allows to to tail multiple log files at the same time.
