root=mozilla runs, user=no worky

I am not sure what the change was, but yesterday my browser(s) stopped working when I am logged in as my username.... when I log in as root I can use the browser. (mozilla)
- It's not that the browser doesnt load at all, it flashes on the screen, the home page loads, and the browser closes. All in the blink of an eye.
So I installed Galeon as root and tried to use it logged in as my user name.
Same thing.
When I run Mozilla from xterm I get the same results, no error message.
Galeon, however, when run from xterm gives me:

Gdk-ERROR **: BadWindow (invalid Window parameter)
serial 7641 error_code 3 request_code 2 minor_code 0

what the hell is going on here??? Help?! Please!

sounds like mozilla has some issues... check your .mozilla/default/xxxx/
directory for a lock file... it's possible it's locked from a previous failed attepmt.
or
Mozilla is somehow hosed, then just download the 1.4 version and install it, that would clear things up, and don't worry about your settings, their stored in your home directory so the install won't touch them.

my way of fixing it, was to run mozilla with the command-
line option '-ProfileManager', then deleting the default account,
creating a new one, and setting that as default. then mozilla
would run for me.

for me this problem occurred when i updated to version
1.4. my existing profile would not be accepted for reasons
unknown, so i exported the bookmarks and fixed it as
described above.

i hope this helps you. good luck.

I am going to try to install mozilla 1.4....
I'll let you know what happens.
Thanks for the responses!

I got some strange package dependancies...
Trying to install the .gz
more soon.

I did manage to install the taz.gz for mozilla 1.4, which was a first for me. It seems to solve the immediate problem of having to log out or use lynx to use the web.
Thanks Muddy, Thanks neenee.
With what you told me I am now goint to try to muddle through getting the old version and galeon to work.
zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz........
