rm gets rid of file, but hardrive space doesn't get smaller (bash)

Hey all, I'm fairly new to linux, and I'm running a game server, for which I had to download some fairly large install files. After installing them, and my hard drive becoming 90% full, I continued to:
Code:
rm <the large installation files>
After 'lsing', and seeing the files no longer there, I'm all happy. I now check to make sure my hard drive has its space back, with df. Guess what? Still exact same usage. This isn't too good (btw, the hard drive's only a 2 giger..)
Is there any way at all to completely get rid of those files, to clear up my hard drive??

rm should remove the files.
You can use 'du -h' to verify the disk usage.

Also be sure that's where your disk usage is coming from. Might have dumped a bunch of junk in /tmp to clean out, for instance.
