Ripping "protected" CD's
I have a few CD's that don't play in computers, I'm sure others here have some as well. Since we've come up with ways to play DVD's on Linux, I was wondering if anyone came across a way to play the disks on Linux from the computer's cd-rom drives. I know I could "rip" the CD by simply hooking a CD player up to my computer with the type of cable that connects the speakers to the soundcard (What type of cable is it? I should know, but I don't.... I need to pick up some of those, as well as some cables that run directly from the CD-ROM drive to the soundcard, for some other computers that have prospects of running Linux), and record via the audio-in jack, but this isn't really ripping, and the quality gets diminished and you have to cut the tracks up manually with an audio-editing program. If anyone has a solution, feel free to enlighten....
