Rip performance

Until today I've done all of my ripping > mp3 encoding using CDEX & LAME.

Today I tried grip and kaudiocreator, again using the lame encoder, SuSe 9.2. This on a 2600+ Athlon with 1G RAM.

The ripper part seems dreadfully slow with both applications. The encoding stage is not too bad.

Nevertheless, a disk that takes ~6 or so minutes to rip & encode on a Windows PC with similar hardware specs, takes the best part of an hour with grip or kaudiocreator.

Is this as good as it gets, or is there faster ripping software out there? Or do I need to check my setting

TIA

Something is wrong with grip or its options. What I don't know. Personally, I prefer abcde to rip and encode cds. Totally command line. Just setup abcde.conf with the options you want and your good to go.

Thanks- a bit of experimenting with grip's 'rip' configuration yielded a four times improvement/
