Rip OGG files from Audio CD - SuSE 10.1 - KDE 3.5.1
 

Not sure what packages I need to get to RIP OGG files from Audio CD in Suse 10.1
Also, it used to be that I could type "audiocd:/" into knoqueror and get the ripping started very easily.
How do I go about getting that to work once again?

Have a look at Grip for an application to rip your audio CD's. It is easy enough to configure, you can rip to .ogg or .mp3. You may need to look for lame, not all distros include it due to legal issues.

Sorry, no advice as to why audiocd:/ doesn't work in Konq. It works on my system, but I'm running Mandriva 2007 spring.

I use KAudiocreator and I've been very happy with the results --- sound quality is excellent.

At the most basic level, you really only need cdparanoia to rip the tracks to .wav and oggenc to do the encoding. You could probably also use mplayer or something like that. But there are several good gui frontends available that make ripping much more convenient. I personally prefer kaudiocreator because it has the best tag editing features as well as allowing full control over the configuration of the encoding backend. k3b also does a pretty good job as a ripper, I believe.

As for the CD browsing/drag&drop ability in konqueror, I believe that's offered by the kde kio plugins package. I don't know what suse calls it exactly, but on Debian the package name is kdemultimedia-kio-plugins.

suse uses Kaudiocentre by default and should allreadyu be set up with oggenc
out of the box...
