rhgb? problem
I recently did a yum update FC3 -> FC4 on an older machine. It seemed to go well, but on
boot the mouse, keyboard, monitor go dead following "starting HAL". The boot completed; I can ssh to the machine. I removed "rhgb quiet" from grub.conf, and then have text login from the console. Then startx work fine. I can live this way, but would perfer to have graphic login and automatic starting of X Windows. When I run rhgb some interesting lines from /var/log/Xorg.log are: (--) TSENG(0): VideoRAM: 0 kByte. (==) TSENG(0): Min pixel clock is 12 MHz (--) TSENG(0): Max pixel clock is 112 MHz (--) TSENG(0): MCLK used is 90 MHz (II) TSENG(0): Monitor0: Using hsync range of 31.50-64.00 kHz (II) TSENG(0): Monitor0: Using vrefresh range of 50.00-120.00 Hz (II) TSENG(0): Clock range: 12.00 to 112.50 MHz (II) TSENG(0): Not using default mode "640x350" (insufficient memory for mode) (II) TSENG(0): Not using default mode "320x175" (insufficient memory for mode) (II) TSENG(0): Not using default mode "640x400" ... What is your motherboard? VGA onboard? rhgb does not see your vga memory. It shouldn't be a few kb. You might have found a bug. Try the fedora.redhat.com forums. Also you might consider downgrading a bit rhgb only. This rhgb thing reminds me a lot of the way the M$ windows software is patchily designed according to market mood.
If you don't want to have to run startx all the time, edit /etc/sysconfig/init and set GRAPHICAL=no. |

Video Card STB_ET6000 with 2M (2048 kb). Sorry about that. I will give your suggestions a try. Don |
